OVERVIEW:

This Data Engineer is a key member of our Professional Services group and act as the hands on Subject Matter Expert for all aspects of data / information management. This person is the primary contributor in the effort to design, develop, implement and monitor the best system possible to manage data for Professional Services efforts. This person maintains, improves, extends the process of analyzing how we manage data today and understands our vision of amazing the customer with world class service and transform BAL data services accordingly.
A major aspect of data within BAL's Pro Serv group is data services. BAL has several groups who need easy access to data including integration services for clients, bot development, reporting and machine learning development with a continuous improvement path for more. This role is responsible for developing new solutions to improve performance and data quality for these data services.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design, build and manage scalable, high performance data pipelines that clean, structure and integrate disparate big data sets into a readable and accessible format for downstream data science and business intelligence teams.
Optimizes performance, implements schema changes, and maintains data standards to enhance reporting and analytics capabilities.
Work with the product owner, data scientist and various internal data users to understand the business requirements and implement optimal data solutions.
Use analytical and problem-solving skills to take complex business requests and transform them into clean, simple data solutions.
Implement/improve version control, deployment strategies and notifications to ensure product quality, agility and recoverability.
Implements processes and systems to monitor data quality, ensuring production data is always accurate and available for key stakeholders and business processes that depend on it.
Represent Professional Services within BAL's Architectural Review Board to ensure we have properly functional, efficient tools.
Implement comprehensive unit-tests and automated production monitoring to verify high quality and detect data quality issues quickly.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum 3 Years' Experience:
Building ETL/ELT data flows - designing, building and operationalizing large-scale enterprise data solutions and applications using technologies such as Spark, EMR, DynamoDB, RedShift, Kinesis, Lambda, Glue, Snowflake, Databricks etc.
Proficiency with common programming language(s) - e.g. Java, Python, Scala, etc.
Hands-on knowledge in using advanced SQL queries (analytical functions), experience in writing and optimizing highly efficient SQL queries (No-SQL experience is a plus)
Experience in testing and monitoring data for anomalies and rectifying them.
Experience is a plus:
AWS functions and tools: RDS, S3, Lambda and Serverless Applications.
Experience with data access tools like Dremio and Cdata
API design, specification and implementation experience using OpenAPI/Swagger and Java/Python/Scala
Experience working with either a Map Reduce or an MPP system on any size/scale

Education Level:
BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field or a combination of relevant certifications and job experience.
