Job Description
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Senior
Network Engineer, Office of Information Technology [R0137246].
ROLE of the POSITION
Primary responsibilities include administration of enterprise
network infrastructure components critical to the connectivity of
UNLV's campus and constituents. The position will require advanced
network administration skills and will collaborate and work with
other engineers to design, implement, monitor, and operate the UNLV
enterprise network composed of routers,
switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, and structured cabling.
This position will require collaboration with OIT's system and
database administrators to facilitate a robust campus wide
infrastructure. The position will also assume a leadership role in
the strategic planning, development and administration of the UNLV
wireless network.
PROFILE of the OFFICE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides leadership,
support, training, and enterprise IT services that empower

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires an earned Bachelor's Degree from an
accredited college or university as recognized by the United States
Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education
Accreditation (CHEA) and 7 years of professional experience
performing Network Engineer and design job duties or an equivalent
combination of education and experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience is one of the
following:
9 or more years of directly comparable experience by the date of
appointment
Associate's degree plus 8 years of directly comparable experience
by the date of appointment
60 hours toward a bachelor's degree with at least 6 hours (equals 1
year) in computer science, or related field plus 8 years of
directly comparable experience by the date of appointment
In addition, CCNA or JNCIA and/or CCNP or JNCIP or like
certifications are preferred.
The incumbent must have specific skill and knowledge in the
following areas:
KNOWLEDGE
Required
In-depth knowledge of the following: LAN switching technologies,
routing technologies, network security, wireless infrastructure,
network infrastructure services and network infrastructure
maintenance, operation and design.
In-depth knowledge and strong hands-on technical experience with
networking components (routers, switches, and wireless
infrastructure), security technology (VPN, IPSEC, Firewalls
Intrusion Detection, etc.), network protocols (e.g. OSPF,
EVPN-VXLAN, HSRP, BGP, LACP, Multicast, underlying IP telephony and
IP Video protocols, SNMP, IPv6), and technology.
Advanced hands-on technical experience, both configuration and
management, with firewalls, VPN services, and other remote access
tools
Demonstrated successful implementation of enterprise wireless
network technologies.

Must be available to serve in an on-call rotation for unexpected
emergencies and work extended shifts
Must be willing to adjust shift schedule to perform maintenance and
upgrades outside of business hours a minimum of once per week
Ability to develop and deliver oral briefings or presentations at
meetings of peers within the unit to communicate technical
knowledge and new information.
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move
objects/network equipment that weigh up to 20 lbs frequently
Ability to lift network equipment that weighs up to 45lbs
occasionally
Ability to learn technologies through research and self-studies and
share knowledge with others in the units.

SALARY RANGE
Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions.
The position is contingent upon funding with a salary range of
$91,600 to $97,100.
