Position Summary:

The Sunrise Children's Hospital Quality Manager, under the direction of the Vice President of Quality Management, is responsible for assuring evidenced-based standards of care for the patient population is met as required by The Joint Commission, HCA, and other regulatory agencies. The Sunrise Children's Hospital Quality Manager also is responsible for performance improvement of the women and children's service line. He/She monitors the quality performance of the women and children's program staff and physicians. The Sunrise Children's Hospital Quality Manager in conjunction with the Vice President of Quality Management provides oversight to the data collection and analysis of quality and safety as related to the women's and children's service line. He/She will function as a role model in quality methodology and the evaluation of performance data; providing guidance in new approaches to women's and children's care delivery accordingly. He/She will take on other responsibilities as determined by the Vice President of Quality Management for the women and children's programs. The Manager reports to the Director of Quality Management.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties and responsibilities listed herein are not intended to be all inclusive but rather to indicate the primary emphasis of the job and establish the parameters for the necessary skill, effort, responsibility and working conditions that make up the job.

* Provide support functions for all aspects of the women's and children's program
* Collaborate with nursing management and staff nurses to define, guide, and evaluate nursing practice in the provision of women's and children's care; including creation of policies and procedures related to clinical research care
* Serve as a nursing consultant to other members of multidisciplinary teams
* Assume responsibility of accruing and evaluating new knowledge and skills in the area of women's and children's nursing
* Assess and evaluates all aspects of care rendered to the women's and children's patient
* Collaborates with other members of the hospital team to facilitate a multidisciplinary quality assurance review of the care of women's and children's patients
* Leads the women's and children's quality committee. Assures the development and maintenance of the Vermont Oxford Network, Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congenital Database, ACS Surgery Verification Database and other service line registries/databases as applicable to include Streetwise, COMET, the Sullivan databases
* Coordinates women's and children's education, concerning all phases of women's and children's care including prevention and rehabilitation
* Collaborates with the education department in planning, providing, and evaluating women's and children's education
* Researches other women's and children's systems in practice to develop and test relevant theories in providing better patient care
* In collaboration with administration assess and evaluates the programs financial contributions to the organization
* Works with administration to resolve financial inefficiencies and reduce cost
* Serves as a liaison to administration, representing the women's and children's program on various hospital and community committees to enhance and foster a fiscally sound women's and children's program
* Abstracts data, or works as a mentor to data abstractor, from medical records according to established criteria for entry into established women's and children's registries/databases utilizing available software tools
* Monitors data integrity, and validity; able to support/explain entries made and rationale with evidence to support
* Demonstrates proficiency with PC-based applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) in to report/analyze/document findings
* Applies basic statistical process control practices in interpreting and reporting findings. Analyzes performance data for trends and patterns. Investigates cause of variation or changes in performance levels
* In collaboration with physicians and hospital leadership identify and coordinate improvement efforts based on outcomes reporting
* Provides regular communication of results and initiatives via reports, memos, emails, etc.to stake holders (physicians, hospital leaders, quality committees). Participates in regular meetings regarding database reports and information; provides knowledgeable feedback and response to data issues
* Participates in professional educational programs and conferences. Acts as a resource to area professionals and legislative groups
* Actively supports and promotes adherence to HCA policies and Ethics & Compliance Programs

Qualifications

Education:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

BSN required

MSN or Master's Degree preferred

BLS, PALS

Special Requirements:

Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) required within 2 years of hire.

Excellent customer service skills. Must be detail oriented and possess strong analytical and computer skills.

Ability to communicate with patients, physicians, and staff as appropriate. Public speaking skills. Strong networking abilities. Ability to work independently and be self-directed.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years nursing experience.

Prior experience as a Quality Manager, Patient Safety Officer, or Performance Improvement/ Quality Coordinator

Minimum 3 years of experience with, and knowledge of women's and children's services strongly

preferred

Minimum of 3 recent years' experience in Women and children's nursing (critical care preferred).

Licensure:

Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Nevada

Skills:

Physical Assessment

Lab data interpretation

Nursing theory

Basic computer and hospital informatics skills: Microsoft Office,

Familiarity with Joint Commission requirements

Familiarity with Vermont Oxford Network and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congenital Database
