SENIOR DIRECTOR OF EXHIBITSMuseum Overview: The Mob Museum, the
National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, is a
nonprofit museum with a mission of advancing the public
understanding of organized crime's history and impact on American
society. The Museum presents authentic stories via interactive
exhibits, original media, one-of-a-kind artifacts, and dynamic

www.themobmuseum.org.Position Overview:The Senior Director of
Exhibits will play a central role in the creation of dynamic,
visually arresting and thought-provoking exhibits that advance the
Museum's mission and enhance the guest experience. The Senior
Director of Exhibits will possess the creativity, skills and
experience needed to collaborate in the creation of multimedia
exhibits that educate and entertain visitors. Reporting to the Vice
President of Exhibits and Programs, the Senior Director of Exhibits
will be a member of the senior leadership team for the organization
and a major contributor to promoting the organization's mission and
core values. Major Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Manage the organization's range of exhibit projects from
planning and design through fabrication and installation.
- Create and manage exhibit project budgets with a goal of
effective cost management.
- Actively participate in the process of developing and updating
the exhibit master plan.
- Design and implement efficient and cost-effective systems for
exhibit development.
- Provide direct supervision and professional development to
staff members, including the Exhibit Designer.
- Collaborate effectively and flexibly with Exhibits and Programs
team members and other colleagues in the design and implementation
of exhibits.
- Attention to detail is paramount.
- Serve as primary liaison with outside designers, fabricators,
printers and interactive developers in the development of
exhibits.
- Develop a strong working knowledge of the history of organized
crime and law enforcement, as well as contemporary issues in
criminal justice.
- Participate in developing and implementing processes to measure
audience reaction to and satisfaction with exhibits.
- Play an active role in the process of identifying and acquiring
artifacts.
- Participate in the creation of marketing materials to publicize
exhibits and educational materials that inform colleagues about new
and updated exhibits.
- Play an active role in the development of annual
exhibit-related budgets.
- Participate in Senior Director-level organization leadership
and strategic planning with special advocacy for matters related to
exhibits.
- Aid in fostering an organizational culture that values
innovation, promotes inclusion, and inspires excellence in the work
environment.
- Other duties as assigned.Experience / Qualifications /
Requirements:
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience working in
exhibit-related positions in a Museum setting.
- Demonstrated skills in exhibit design and production, including
the use of computer-based design software to create detailed plans
for exhibits.
- Strong working familiarity with exhibit-making materials and
effective lighting systems.
- Demonstrated ability to read and evaluate schematic design and
construction documents.
- Able to manage people effectively in high-stress situations and
to collaborate well across departments.
- Experience working with subject-matter experts, writers,
graphic artists, printers, fabricators, archivists and
videographers.
- Strong writing skills.
- Experience in the development of interactive exhibits is an
asset.
- Able to interact effectively with a broad spectrum of age
levels and cultural backgrounds.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain positive working
relationships with co-workers, supervisors, vendors, community
organizations, and the public.
- Proven track record of developing, motivating, training and
supervising staff.
- Strong organizational skills and software competency in Word,
Excel, PowerPoint and the Adobe Creative Suite.
- Flexible, innovative, self-motivated and able to work
independently.
- Able to constantly operate a computer or other office
productivity machinery.
- Passion for creating a world-class museum that is unrivaled in
content and recognized for a truly outstanding guest
experience.
- Enthusiasm for working in an organization where change is
frequent, structure is evolving, and flexibility, teamwork and good
humor are absolute necessities. Education:A master's degree in a
relevant field is strongly preferred, ideally in public history,
museum studies, graphic design, industrial design, theater design
or a related field.Annual Salary Range $100,000-$115,000
