The Design Department Manager is responsible for the training and development of the Design Assistant Department Manager, Design Consultants, and for driving sales for Floor and Decor. Additionally, the Design Department Manager ensures that customers have a positive sales experience by receiving exceptional customer service through design services.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Interior Design preferred
  • Three (3) or more years of interior design experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job, as determined by the company and minimum of one (1) year of retail experience preferred

    • Minimum of one year of relevant experience sales leadership roles within retail or an equivalent combination of education and leadership experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job, as determined by the company.

      • Must possess leadership and communication abilities to drive design business.

        • Knowledge of hard surface flooring is a plus
        • Excellent customer service skills
        • Proficient in basic mathematical skills
        • Must be self-motivated and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
        • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
        • Willing to work retail hours
        • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
        • Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office suite
        • Perform other duties as assigned

          Essential Job Functions

          • Drive average ticket and conversion through design appointments
          • Train, motivate and develop design consultants and store associates using the C.A.R.E training model
          • Lead design team and associates through adjacent category product training and selling tools to ensure we effectively promote a complete design solution for our customers
          • Greet every customer in a helpful and courteous manner

            • Seeks new customers and supports store walk in needs and drive sales
            • Sets appointments and meets with customers to determine design needs and formulates a design plan.
            • Sells tile, wood, stone, installation material, adjacent categories, that best meet the needs of our customer and offers a complete design solution

              • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of product and installation
              • Meets and exceeds established goals
              • Set, track and hold Design associates accountable for goals (sales, conversion, average ticket, etc---)
              • Meet with designers individually on a weekly basis to review personal opportunities and growth development
              • Participate in Product Line Reviews
              • Schedule Design associates and online appointment availability based on business needs and peak hours
              • Provide leadership and direction to design associates to ensure a highly attentive level of customer service
              • Actively coach design associates to raise professionalism of design services
              • Responsible for understanding, utilizing, and managing design applications i.e.; SketchUp, proprietary Online Design Appointment Scheduler, MyOrder, etc---

                • Maintain customer contact at a high level and understand relationship selling, from pre-appointment/initial customer engagement to post purchase follow up
                • Network, participate, in and/or host professional design affiliations to promote F&D design services i.e. ASID, NKBA. IIDA, etc---
                • Maintain consistent communication with store leadership to support company goals and vision
                • Responsible for design gallery maintenance and maintaining company visual standards
                • Partners with NSVM on all design gallery refreshes product/display selections
                • Stay current on design trends and understand trends in your market
                • 75% of the Design DM's time will be focused on driving sales and providing exceptional customer service, 25% is focused on operational/administrative duties associated with the design leadership role.

                  Working Conditions (travel, environment)

                  • Limited travel required including car travel
                  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to a warehouse environment and moving vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate to noisy.

                    Physical/Sensory Requirements

                    Medium Work - Ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. The employee is often required to use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
