At Surest, we are passionate about improving the health of our members! -The Clinical Advocate- Maternity Specialist is responsible for supporting maternity members throughout their pregnancy to assess needs, educate and provide resources to help the member have the healthiest pregnancy possible. The Clinical Advocate - Maternity Specialist will also focus on members in the post-partum stage to screen for health and social determinant issues with mom or the baby. This position reports to the Clinical Operations Manager and has no direct reports.

Primary Responsibilities: -



  • Engage with Surest members telephonically and by email to identify needs and assist with benefit navigation, decision support and general maternity information
  • Educate, provide resources and establish a plan of care with maternity members
  • Screen for high-risk situations, including health and SDOH, and refer to appropriate sources
  • Establish trust with prenatal and postpartum members
  • Track, assess and document member's health plan
  • Identify high risk situations early and support members proactively to improve outcomes
  • Cross trained to assist with other disease focused needs for the member
  • Provide expert consultation to other Clinical Advocates on the team or other business units about maternity member's needs
  • Identify and execute on process improvement opportunities

    Required Qualifications: -

    • 3+ years of clinical experience in a hospital, acute care, direct care or care coordination
    • 2+ years of clinical experience in Maternal/Child Health
    • Certified Patient Navigator, Certified Medical Assistant, LPN, or other relevant certification/licensure
    • Proficiency with MS Office
    • Outcome orientation
    • Proven excellent communication skills- both written and verbal


      Preferred Qualifications: -

      • Maternity Care Coordination/Education
      • Bachelor's degree in health - related specialty
      • Current, unrestricted LPN license/Doula/Certified Maternity Specialist
      • Proven ability to work in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment
      • Proven to be comfortable questioning status quo and proposing ideas for improvement

        California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The hourly range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $22.45 to $43.89.
