Vegas invites applications for Staff Psychiatrist, UNLV Student
Wellness, Student Counseling and Psychology Administrative
[R0146094]ROLE of the POSITIONThe Staff Psychiatrist provides
clinical care to students and in the Counseling and Psychological
Services Center. Participation of the resident program may include
supervision of residents. The mission of the Staff Psychiatrist is
to improve the behavioral, mental and physical health of students
by promoting high levels of psychiatric care. The Staff
Psychiatrist also promotes teaching by facilitating supervision
with PGY-3 psychiatry residents rotating with Student Wellness. The
Staff Psychiatrist will assist in continuous monitoring of clinical
services to strive to improve services as available and in line
with patient/student needs.PRIMARY JOB DUTIESEvaluate and treat
patients for psychiatric conditions.Prescribe psychiatric
medication, monitor medication effectiveness, and provide follow-up
careHospitalize students that constitute danger to self or
othersRespond to psychiatric emergencies and provide back-up crisis
care for other clinicians as neededGenerate patient
correspondenceArrange for the appropriate transfer and discharge of
patientsMaintain timely patient treatment recordsMaintain adequate
continuing education for clinical education requirements.Provide
culturally competent care to our diverse campus populationComply
with federal and state laws and regulations governing the practice
of medicine. Follow Student Wellness policy and
procedures.Participate in the training and supervision of PGY-3
psychiatric residents as needed.Assist in oversight of the
residency program when the Director is out of office.Assist in
monitoring, evaluating, and improving patient care and program
effectiveness.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThis position requires an MD or
DO from an accredited college or university as recognized by the
United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher
Education Accreditation (CHEA).Candidates must have successfully
completed a Psychiatry Residency program and have 1-3 years of
experience as a licensed Psychiatrist.Candidates must have a valid
medical license in Nevada.Credentials must be obtained prior to the
start date.KNOWLEDGEComprehensive knowledge of the DSM5.Extensive
knowledge of psychiatric medications used to treat psychiatric
illnesses.Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws are governing
the practice of medicine.Knowledge of collaborative care
practices.Knowledge of issues facing college and professional
students.Knowledge of and compliance with Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational
Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations as they pertain to
student information and patient electronic health
