Nellis Air Force Base
The "Home of the Fighter Pilot, " Nellis Air Force Base is home to
the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center, the largest and most demanding
advanced air combat training mission in the world. At Nellis, we
provide training for composite strike forces which include every
type of aircraft in the Air Force inventory. Training is conducted
in conjunction with air and ground units of the Army, Navy, Marine
Corps and air forces from our allied nations. The crews do not come
to learn how to fly, but instead how to be the best combat aviators
in the world.
Requirements (duties include but are not limited
to)
- Diagnoses and treats diseases. Prepares and reviews case
histories and clinical records. Performs diagnostic procedures
including x-ray examinations, clinical laboratory tests, pulmonary
function tests, critical care, and sleep studies. Interprets test
results, evaluates examination findings, and treats. Prescribes
such treatment for internal diseases as drugs, physical therapy,
and dietary regimens. The Pulmonologist shall perform a full range
and spectrum of comprehensive specialty care onsite at the MTF.
Workload includes the evaluation and treatment of emergent, urgent,
and non-emergent patients ranging in age as young as 18 years to
over 65 years. Workload is a result of scheduled appointments,
walk-ins to the clinic from other departments, walk-ins for
specific diagnoses, telephone calls, and consult requests. The
Pulmonologist will practice within the guidelines set by the
credentialing office of the 99 MDG and the Medical Director. The
Pulmonologist's productivity is expected to be comparable to that
of the other civilian and military Pulmonologist physicians
assigned to the same facility/similar facilities and authorized the
same scope of practice. The Pulmonologist will meet the Medical
Group Management Association (MGMA) standard for Nellis Air Force
Base for Relative Value Units (RVUs). The MGMA standard is updated
annually on the fiscal year. It is the Contractor's responsibility
to contact Medical Logistics for an updated copy.
- Coordinates pulmonary services with other medical
activities.
- Provides inpatient pulmonary services during normally scheduled
hours of performance, to include on-call hours when
applicable.
- Must be capable of performing the full range of pulmonary and
critical care medicine.
- Participation in teaching programs, where applicable.
- Provide instruction for adult nurse practitioner students,
physician assistant interns, medical students, interns, and
residents in the form of clinical rotations.
- Consult with appropriate specialists.
- Write initial admission orders.
- Prescribe and administer drugs.
- Shall see new patient consults and established follow-up clinic
visits. The provider is expected to respond to telephone
consults.
- Shall provide outpatient services for patients as scheduled by
the MTF.
- Shall provide inpatient care. This will include patients
previously established in the Pulmonary Department. This will
include new patients when consults are requested by the admitting
health care team.
- Shall provide critical care consults to patients admitted to
ICU and assist primary teams in their patient management. Provide
pulmonary consultative services for hospital inpatients. Provide
inpatient consultative services and follow-up for patients with
pulmonary disorders; as well as, provide education/teaching to
staff members of other disciplines/specialties, medical
residents/students, and other personnel involved in patient care.
The contract pulmonologist will be expected to be on call from the
local area on a rotating basis.
Qualifications
- Graduated from an approved medical school and completed a
residency or fellowship acceptable to the U.S. Air Force Surgeon
General as a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Osteopathy (D.O.) from a
school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized
accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation or, A
Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical
school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially
equivalent to accredited schools in the United States.
- Must have successfully completed an additional residency or
fellowship program in pulmonology and critical care medicine
acceptable to the Surgeon General, HQ USAF, is mandatory.
- Must have and maintain current board certification by the
American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Osteopathic
Board of Internal Medicine in pulmonology and critical care.
- Must have and maintain a valid unrestricted license as a
Licensed Physician/Medical Doctor in one of the 50 United States,
the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin
Islands.
- Must be capable of performing the full range of pulmonology and
critical care services
- Must have provided Pulmonology or critical care services a
minimum of 24 months within the last 36 months.
