The file clerk position is located within the Health Administration Service/HIMS Section at the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System, Las Vegas, Nevada. The primary purpose of this position is to scan medical and administrative information into the CPRS/VISTA program. Responsibilities extends to reviewing and processing all work orders and equipment management associated automated data system inputs/output.

The major duties are as follow, but are not limited to:

* General computer skills* Electronic scanning of various health information.* Perform quality checks per prescribed timeframes and criteria.* Process health record transfer requests.* Good communication, good grammar and writing skills* Confidentiality of electronic records and paper components of the health record.* Processing various administrative and medical documents (receipt, intake, scanning, indexing, quality control, destruction and transfer)* Records processing

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/12/2021.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

* General Experience:* You must have one year of general experience. Examples of experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position, such as, receiving, indexing, scanning and filing of health and administrative.


* Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years above high school (if qualifying with education, you must submit a transcript) .


* Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of experience and education beyond high school. Example: The position to be filled is a Clerk-Typist, GS-4. The applicant has 4 months of qualifying experience and 1 year of business school. The applicant meets 33 percent of the required experience and 50 percent of the required education. The applicant meets 83 percent of the total requirements and is not qualified for the position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: This work is mostly sedentary; however, until records have been automated, work may involve considerable walking, standing and bending in search for health records. There is lifting and carrying of bulky records and boxes, usually not to exceed 50 pounds. Pushing carts is routine for retiring records.
