Summary The primary purpose of this position is to receives veterans at the front desk or by telephone encounter to determine the nature of their visit/telephone call and directs them appropriately. Responsibilities Major Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Correctly provide veterans the prescribed over the counter prosthetic/orthotic items according to their physician's request; annotate in the veteran's CPRS, medical record, and enter into prosthetic software computer application; all in accordance VHA Handbook 1173.2 and Prosthetic Clinical Practice guidelines. Review prosthetic consults request for eligibility and entitlement and ensures the correct disability code is entered in the prosthetic software in accordance with VHA Handbook 1173.1. Demonstrate or provide instructions to veterans/caretakers in the use of off the shelf prosthetic devices or items. Assist the Inventory Managers and Purchasing Agents with mail-outs as needed, receive incoming stock and put on shelves, and assemble mobility equipment according to the manufacturer's written instructions. Advises patients as to the availability of products, repairs, and procurement sources in our primary service area. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/01/2023. Typing Proficiency: 40 word per minute typing speed. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Qualifying specialized experience includes: Performing general office tasks (i.e., telephone skills, spelling, grammar, and filing). Communicate verbally and in writing. Proficiency in using a computer. Knowledge of medical terminology. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. (Transcripts must be submitted at time of application). OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond post-high school (beyond the second year). You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Attention to Detail Clerical Computer Skills Oral Communication Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is somewhat sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there is some physical exertion such as walking, standing, bending, crouching, stooping, and reaching, as incumbent is regularly involved in stocking and retrieving prosthetic/orthotic inventory up to 50 lbs. Must assemble mobility aids, i.e., walkers, rollators, or wheelchairs. Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
