Education - Master's Degree Skills - FSA Benefits - Health Insurance Duties Summary This position is located in the Intermountain Region for the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, for the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area in Las Vegas, NV . This position assists the District Recreation, Wilderness, and Trails Staff Officers in wilderness management and the non-motorized trail program. Design programs to reach wilderness users and reduce recreation related impacts to preserve natural resources. Recommend strategies to respond to changing recreation area use problems. Monitor condition of wilderness areas and trails using guidance provided in established land management plans. Review trail and wilderness area construction standards, required maintenance levels to achieve resource program priorities. Provide recommendations to the program manager to correct unacceptable wilderness area and trail conditions. Prepare preliminary plans for trail maintenance, reconstruction or construction based on completed trail condition surveys and design information. Develop budgets, long range and annual work plans for maintenance and construction of non-motorized trails. Identify trail work required to meet land management priorities and goals. Plan and administer wilderness area and trail maintenance projects following established land management plans. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-08: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as some of the following: Assisting with wilderness project work plans in accordance with agency policy; Assisting in the identification of and planning for future trail construction, reconstruction, maintenance, and restoration projects; Providing input to the budget planning by assisting with the overall estimation of materials, personnel, and supplies needed for work accomplishment for developed and dispersed recreation sites; Assisting with the administration of a recreation area by helping to develop and carry out operations plans for the use, improvement and maintenance for developed and dispersed recreation sites. OR Two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (such as forestry, range management, agriculture). OR A combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. For the GS-09: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as some of the following: Formulating and implementing wilderness project work plans in accordance with agency policy; Participating in the identification and planning for future trail construction, reconstruction, maintenance, and restoration projects; Providing input to the budget planning by providing the overall estimation of materials, personnel, and supplies needed for work accomplishment for developed and dispersed recreation sites; Administering a recreation area with responsibility for developing and carrying out operations plans for the use, improvement and maintenance for developed and dispersed recreation sites. OR Two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (such as forestry, range management, agriculture). OR A combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan anding for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
